Jet Trac Safety Tips

It is vital to hold a safety meeting to insure your crews follow these below procedures/recommendations:

Never are within 6 feet, minimum, of the drill rod or conduit being pulled any time the rig is running.

Never enter any pit, at any time, unless the drill rig is "off".

Never use the machine torque/power/rotation to make up or break out tooling, (reamers, housing, etc.).

Never use pipe wrenches and machine rotation to make up or breakout tooling.

Always insure all utilities have been potholed prior to boring/crossing and call 811 two weeks prior for locates of the existing underground facilities.

Appreciate the tremendous power of the drill rig at all times and heed all warnings in the Operator Manual and decals on the rigs.

Every operator/locator should read the Operator's Manual, 100%, front to back, and watch the safety videos available from Ditch Witch.

  Download free Operator's Manuals @ www.calditchwitch.com or www.ditchwitch.com.

Mix drilling fluids properly to insure a safe and complete bore.

Go to www.ditchwitch.com and use the Drilling Fluid Formulator to determine proper chemical mixes for the environments they are working in.

Have good two way radio communications and absolutely understand emergency shutdown procedures.   Call 911 in the event of any utility hit and shut the unit immediately if a gas strike.  Stay on the rig until the ESS box indicates all clear if an electric strike.  Keep all bystanders clear of the area.

Insure units are securely stowed and tied down on the trailers.

Make sure lug nuts are tight, and tires properly inflated on all trailers.

Cone off and barrier tape the work site.

Stake the units down with both anchors, to full depth, for proper grounding.

Insure their Electrical Strike System box is working 100%.

Wear boots and gloves when boring around or over electricity.

Don't exceed the bend radius of the drill rod.

Use the EZ Connects and Quick Wrenches designed for use with the rigs, per the Operator's Manual.  (No need for open end wrenches).
